Vergil was once enslaved by Mundus and went by the name Nero Angelo. The dark past tortured him for a long time, but he eventually overcame it through countless struggles.

Vergil's Secret 3

Vergil's obsession with power stems from his childhood trauma of seeing his mother's dead body after she was killed by a demon and being too weak to stop it.

Vergil's Secret 4

Vergil considered his human half redundant for his pursuit of power and removed it with Yamato, leaving only the pure demonic half and becoming "Urizen, the Demon King".

Vergil's Secret 5

Despite being a pure demon and the supposedly most powerful Demon King, Urizen still failed the final battle against Dante. He simply lacked the courage to face himself and admit his weaknesses. Through this experience, Vergil gained the necessary vision and determination to become more powerful.
